It offers one of the widest ranges of nutrients from a single source found on earth, including antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, omega fatty acids, carotenoids, and more. Unprocessed, they have a tart, bitter taste, with a little sweetness to them.
Also called sandthorn, sallowthorn, seaberry, or the “Nordic Passion Fruit”, the sea buckthorn berry is one of nature’s most powerful plants.
Greek mythology says it was eating Sea Buckthorn berries that gave Pegasus his wings and such a shiny coat.
Harvested in many countries now, our Sea Buckthorn is grown organically for us by Ben and David Eagle , fourth and fifth generation farmers , based in Essex, UK .
At Surrey Hills Fermentary, in order to become more sustainable, we have planted a small Sea Buckthorn plantation, as a tribute to our powerful and kind Norwegian Fjord Horse, Thor, who grew his own wings in 2018. Sea Buckthorn berries remind of us of his coat and his happy spirit, that shone golden like these berries. These plants were carried by hand in our suitcase, from Camilla and Mads at Hostet , on the small island of Bornholm, Denmark.
We add the Orgnanic Sea Buckthorn to our Water Kefir, to supercharge the health benefits of the Water Kefir providing you with Good Health, Naturally and Sustainably.
